Immigration Policy

P. Klein
Loughborough MP Andy Reed today welcomes and supports the announcements by Immigration Minister Liam Byrne on his shake up of the immigration and border system including his 10 steps to change. The shake up starting with the launching of fingerprint checks for all visa applicants. These checks implemented around the world for visa applicants were 3 months ahead of schedule and below budget. Other target set for the year by the Minister include spot checks and fines for firms not complying with right to work checks, a new points system for migrants and the a single border and immigration force with police like powers.
Following the success of the fingerprints checks the Minister has set out ambitious targets for the year ahead. The Loughborough MP supports the Ministers fully in his continuing work to make the country safer and have a system that stop illegal immigration but is compassionate to in the system.
Andy Reed said “border security and immigration have become important issues in today’s global world. With so many people moving across borders we need to ensure we have a system in place to manage these movements and monitored people coming in and out.
I very much welcome the announcement today of the fingerprint checks being in place and the targets for the year to continue improving the service. We must continue to work to improve border controls and these announcements sets out the government’s intent for 2008”.
