Andy Reed Welcomes Funding for National Cycling Revolution
Posted on 25/01/2008
P. Klein

Loughborough MP Andy Reed today called on the local authority to bid for a slice of the record £140million funding the Government is investing in cycling. Andy supports the government’s announcement of this record level and welcomes the government’s commitment to encourage more people to use their bikes.
With the Government announcement of record investment of £140 million for cycling over the next three years, to help children learn to cycle safely and to help adults rediscover their bikes. Cycling has a major role to play in any sustainable transport strategy. It helps to tackle local congestion and air pollution and offers people more opportunities for exercise.
The Loughborough MP said:
"Labour is working with local authorities, schools and parents to make a real difference to the way people travel, encourage healthier lifestyles and develop more sustainable communities.
We can help a generation rediscover their bikes and give children the skills they need to cycle safely and responsibly on our roads.
"I welcome the Governments massive increase in funding for cycling and, working with Cycle England, the commitment to encouraging more people onto their bikes, even more safe links for children to cycle to school and the creation of cycle parking spaces. This is great news for the Loughborough area."
