Train Derailment

Commuters in Loughborough are currently facing chaos this morning after a train collided with an object on the line and derailed near Barrow Upon Soar. The emergency services are currently at the scene of an the incident in Barrow-upon-Soar after they responded to reports of a collision involving a shuttle train at around 6.32am this morning (Friday February 1, 2008).

The six passengers on the train were not injured.  Emergency services are at the scene working to free the driver from cab. 

The cause of the incident is being investigated by British Transport Police.  Early indications suggest that the train was in collision with debris on the track which had fallen after a dumper truck was in collision with a foot bridge on Grove Lane.

The scene of the incident has been cordoned off which has involved the closure of High Street, Barrow-upon-Soar.  Motorists are asked to avoid the area if at all possible.

The line is closed and rail passengers should contact National Rail enquiries for updates. This will effect jorneys to and from London together with disruption to services north of Loughborough.
