Ringing the Changes
Posted on 01/02/08

New phone numbers being brought in by Leicestershire County Council on Monday as part of the Councils money saving iniatives.
From Monday (4th February 2008), all County Council numbers starting with 0116 265 will be replaced by numbers starting with 0116 305.
For example, 0116 265 7047 will change to 0116 305 7047. Even though this is a Leicester number there is no 2 after the code 0116.
The new numbers have been introduced because the 265 number range had reached full capacity. The change will save 10,000 each year, make the transferring of calls easier and enable staff to keep numbers when they move offices.
Both the old and new numbers have worked for the past few months but from Monday, anyone calling 0116 265 will hear a message asking them to re-dial the new one.
Brian Page, the County Councils Cabinet Member for Resources, said: "Changing our phone numbers enables us to improve our call-handling but also save money at the same time."
