Romantic Farmers in Loughborough
Posted on 06/02/2008
P. Klein

PASSIONS will be running high at the Loughborough Farmer’s Market next week – as the traders coming into town get in a romantic mood for Valentine’s Day. (Dont say you werent warned).
The well-liked Charnwood Borough Council organised event takes place next Wednesday, (13th February 2008) and stallholders will be selling a number of love-ly products that customers will find truly irresistible.
All the stalls will be decorated and many valentine themed products – including heart-shaped pies, soaps and cheeses – will be available in Devonshire Square between 9am and 3pm.
And to prove romance isn’t dead in Loughborough and Charnwood, love will also be in the air on Valentine’s Day itself as traders at Loughborough’s Thursday Market adorn their stalls with heart-shaped balloons – and sell a number of cards and gifts perfect for him or her.
Mick Jackson, Charnwood Borough Council’s Markets and Fairs Manager, said: “The Farmer’s Market is the perfect opportunity to pick up a Valentine’s Day gift with a difference – and prove you love your locally-supplied produce as well.
“Delicious heart-shaped organic cheddars and tasty heart-shaped pies could make the perfect present for him while there will be beautiful hand made heart-shaped soaps for the ladies.
“And there will also be some wonderful locally-grown fruit and vegetables that could help make the ideal Valentine’s Day meal for a loved one.
“On Valentine’s Day itself, the traders at the weekly Thursday market will also be on hand for people wanting to pick up last minute cards, flowers or other gifts.”
An extensive variety of local produce – including types of rare meats, organic fruits and vegetables, jams, preserves, chutneys, pickles, eggs, cheeses, bread, cakes and pies plus local wine cider and juices - is available at the Farmers Market every month.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure and Conservative councillor for Loughborough Nanpantan, added: “Great idea – Food for Love, Love Food Day!
“I think it’s a fun idea when people transform the everyday things we take for granted into a special event like this. This is really creative and will be full of fun.”
