Mines of Memory reminiscence day at Snibston
Posted on 12/02/2008
P. Release
Did you or someone in your family work at Snibston or Whitwick Collieries? If so, we would like to invite you to come along to the Mines of Memory Reminiscence Day on Saturday 23rd February at Snibston.
Part of the Heritage Lottery Funded Mines of Memory project, this free event is an opportunity to share your memories over a cup of tea, take a colliery tour and to find out more about the mining heritage of the area. There will be photographs from the Coalville 150 group, mining memorabilia from Chris Matchett’s collection and additional items from the museum’s coal mining collections on display.
An important aspect of the Mines of Memory project is to record 20 new oral history interviews relating to Snibston and Whitwick Collieries. We are keen to talk to people who worked in a wide range of jobs there, from coal face worker to canteen lady. Please come along for an informal chat and to meet some old friends.
The event runs from 11am until 3pm on Saturday 23rd February in the Stenson Room at Snibston.
Interested? If you worked at either colliery and would be willing to share some of your memories, please contact Alison Clague at Snibston on 0116 305 3429 or email: aclague@leics.gov.uk.
