Police in Loughborough in Charnwood are appealing for witnesses following a robbery at a roadside diner on the A6, Derby Road.

The robbery occurred at about 1.30pm on Saturday 9 February 2008 at the Diner Café, which is located close to the Warwick Way/Bishop Meadow Road roundabout, just as the proprietor was locking up at the end of the day.

A man entered the diner using the back door and then demanded money from the cash till. He was holding what is thought to be a small silver coloured knife, approx 3 to 4 inches long.

He then made his escape with about £90 in coins, went across the lay-by, into a wooded area and headed towards a nearby housing estate. The victim of the crime followed him for a short time but could not keep up with him.

The villain is described as being white, 510" to 6 tall and having a skinny build. He is believed to be aged in his late 20s to early 30s. He is described as having ‘a gingery-brown beard and was dressed in a woollen hat, a grey-brown jacket and dark trousers.

PC Jon Kay who is investigating the incident said: "The victim of this incident was naturally very shaken. Shes not owned the business for very long and its certainly had an effect on her.

"The A6 is a busy road most days but there will definitely have been a good deal of traffic on Saturday afternoon. Im therefore appealing to anyone who was driving or walking in the area, who may have seen a man matching the description, to please get in touch.

"This man had to have run somewhere, perhaps you saw him, perhaps you live close by and recognise him? If you have any information about this incident then wed be keen to hear from you."

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PC 2074 Jon Kay from Loughborough LPU on Leicester (0116) 222 2222, follow the instructions to leave a message for an officer and when prompted key in his identification number 2074.
