Loughborough Constituency Surgeries
Posted on 20/02/08
R. Reed

Loughborough MP Andy Reed has paid tribute to the success of the thriving Ramada Hotel in Loughborough.
Since the Ramada hotel was sold from Jarvis Hotels in 2005, Reed has been using one of their conference rooms for Constituency surgeries in Loughborough because of its central location and ease of access for disabled constituents. Hundreds of people have had meetings at the local surgeries recently to discuss matters that concern them. However there is no such thing as a typical subject that can be presented at a surgery, which could range from issues over a neighbours hedge, the Police to the politics of the war in Iraq.
One surgery saw people who wished to discuss: support for a project from a community association, an individual who wished to discuss the lack of response from various agencies, new clergy who wanted to introduce themselves, someone who wished to discuss the new dental contracts and another who wanted to talk about drug tariffs.
At that time local High School student Leonie Amarasekara was carrying out work experience with Andy Reed in Loughborough. Andy was so impressed with Leonie that he arranged a trip for her to Number 10 Downing Street to meet the Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Leonie said at the time: "I would like to thank Mr Andy Reed for giving me the wonderful opportunity to visit a place so integral in British history. Meeting the Prime Minister was an experience that I will never forget and I am so glad to have met so many young people who have been doing work of great merit for their communities and have defeated the negative stereotype portrayed by the media. The event united us all in the spirit of change that we can invoke in our communities, now and in the future."
The Loughborough MP, who also holds surgeries in Sileby and Shepshed stated: its important that Loughborough town centre provides excellent hotel facilities, and I know from personal experience that the Ramada is a shining example of a local business investing significant resource, with widespread benefits.
