Budding gardeners from Loughborough or Shepshed who fancy a short trip over to Coalville are in for a special treat. Next month on Friday March 7th Donington le Heath Manor House will hold a talk on the Tudor Garden by Prebendal Manor’s gardener Michael (Mike) Brown.

Mike Brown has researched historic gardens for many years and designed the well known medieval garden at the Prebendal Manor, Nassington, Northamptonshire. The gardens there represent both the practical and decorative features that were typically found in high status gardens from the 13th to the 15th centuries in Britain.

At Donington le Heath Michael will talk about the Tudor garden, the types of plants popular during the Tudor period and how they were used in popular remedies of the time. Mike will discuss what made the Tudor garden unique and how it fitted into the Tudor world view.

He will also bring along a selection of replica Tudor garden tools for you to see and handle and be available to answer your questions on all things horticultural whether historic or not.

‘Meet the Tudor Gardener is on Friday 7th March 2008 at 7.30 pm. The talk is £3.50 including light refreshments and admission is by ticket only. Tickets are available at Donington le Heath Manor House, which is on the South West edge of Coalville, near Hugglescote. Tickets are available at the Manor House. It is approximately 10 miles from Loughborough with a journey time by car of approximately 20 minutes.
