Andy Reed yesterday (20th February 2008) welcomed the latest employment figures that show a drop in the levels of unemployment in the Loughborough area. The latest figures produced by the Office for National Statistics showed the rate of unemployment to be 1.7%. This represents a fall in unemployment levels for the area from 2.0% at the same time last year, showing that the local economy is continuing to grow. The figure of 1.7% equates to 656 people classified as unemployed in the area. The Borough of Charnwood has 1,434 people unemployed.

Loughborough’s unemployment rate is better than the average for the East Midlands (2.0%) and the UK as a whole (2.2%).

The news is a positive reminder of the work that Andy and the government are doing in the Loughborough area to encourage and help people get back to work. The figures show a decline in the number of people receiving job seekers allowance over the past month.

The Loughborough MP told inLoughborough: “this is great news for the Loughborough area, the statistics showing that Loughborough is tackling unemployment.

I am happy to see the figures as they show the good work people have been putting in to get people back into work and shows that the Loughborough economy is staying strong and doing well.”
