Are you in Loughborough or Shepshed and stuck on what to get your mother this coming Mothering Sunday? If so why not consider getting her out of Loughborough for a special treat?

Mothering Sunday has a long history as a day of honouring mothers and is celebrated on various days of the year depending on where you are in the world. "Mothers Day" in the United Kingdom and Ireland falls on the 4th Sunday of Lent (3 weeks before Easter Sunday). It is thought to have started from the 16th C. Christian practice of visiting ones mother church annually, which meant that nearly all mothers would be reunited with their offspring on this day. Many historians think that young apprentices and young women in servitude were given time off by their masters on that weekend so that they could visit their families.

To help in the pampering, visitors to Snibston are being encouraged to come along on Saturday 1st March for a day of maternal pampering! Theres plenty of interesting activities happening around the museum for all ages and abilities all of which will help visitors to treat the special woman in their family on Mothering Sunday.

The Fashion Gallery is hosting a special Eastern themed dressing up activity where guests can learn how to tie a sari and have a go at Mendhi hand painting. Great for anyone whos dreamt of being a Bollywood glamour puss.

Theres also the chance to create unique gifts during two special activities taking place at the museum. It is advisable to pre-book by calling 01530 278 444 for these particular sessions due to popularity.

Visitors can take part in a flower arranging class with sessions at 11am and 1.30pm. This facilitated workshop will allow you to construct beautiful displays with fresh flowers. Tickets are priced at 10 each and experts will be on hand to give tips and advice on making the most of your floral constructions.

The second activity on offer is one for the younger members of the family. This gives them the chance to make their own personalised Mothers Day card and decorate a delicious biscuit in its very own box. Sessions take place at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Tickets are priced at 5 each.

If thats not enough to tempt the mums then theres also a free cup of tea or coffee being offered to them in the caf all day. Its only about ten miles from Loughborough and you can be there in 20 minutes using a car.
