DVD for Benefits

A DVD telling older people about benefits they are entitled to and how to claim them is being launched.

The short film, called Claim It, Its Yours, made with Heartbeat and The Royal actor Bill Maynard features stories from three Leicestershire people who have benefited from claiming what is rightfully theirs.

Leicestershire County Council is the brains behind the DVD and its key message which is that older people need this money and it is now much easier to find out if they can qualify and make a claim for an entitlement.

The DVD will be launched at Winter Blues, an over-50s activity morning at The Pavilion, in Huncote, on Thursday, February 28.

The DVD has been produced by a partnership of Leicestershire agencies intent on helping older people receive their full entitlements, including the County Council, The Pension Service, district councils and the voluntary sector.

The partnership wants as many people to see this film as possible and believes it will have a significant impact in encouraging people to claim the money that can keep them fit and independent in older age.

David Sprason, Cabinet member with responsibility for Adult Social Care said: "Too many older people are not claiming the benefits that they are rightly entitled to. I hope this DVD will raise awareness of what is available and encourage more people to claim."

The DVD can be viewed by going to the following website: www.leicestershire.gov.uk/entitlements_older_people.htm

If you would like a copy of the DVD to show to a group or to show at a meeting you can contact Burt McNeill on 0116 305 8240 or email bmcneill@leics.gov.uk
