Egg-celent Easter in Charnwood
Posted on 06/03/2008
P. Klein

Youngsters can look forward to an eggs-cellent Easter holiday thanks to a wide-range of sport and leisure activities in and around Loughborough, Thurmaston, Syston and Birstall organised by Charnwood Borough Council.
More than 20 events have been arranged by Charnwood’s Leisure Services Team to keep five to 16-year-olds entertained during the two-week break – and places can be booked now.
And to coincide with the bumper Easter 2008 Activity Programme, Charnwood Borough Council’s popular Wild Card leisure pass can be purchased for only £1.50 – a huge a 50 per cent saving on the normal price of £3.
Wild Card holders receive some fantastic discounts on events in the Holiday programme, which take place between Tuesday, 25th March and Friday, 4th April.
Events in the holiday programme include golf academy days, ice skating, climbing, horse riding, trampolining, tennis course, mini soccer, badminton, kwik cricket, archery, 10-pin bowling and a number of swimming-themed activities.
There will be fun for all the family when free Play Day events take place at Loughborough’s Queen’s Park, Thurmaston’s Elizabeth Park, Syston’s Central Park and the Birstall Recreation Ground.
Cllr Peter Lewis, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Leisure, said: “Wild Card is a greater and greater success as the months go by.
“For Easter it is ‘eggceptional value.’ Our Borough does these things brilliantly, so if you’re young get a Wild Card and get active!”
The Wild Card, which is valid for one year, is free if children receive free school meals and can also be purchased by people of any age with a disability.
It also gives special discounts at Loughborough Leisure Centre, Soar Valley Leisure Centre, South Charnwood Swimming Pool as well as more than 50 tourist and leisure attractions across the East Midlands, including Twycross Zoo, Twinlakes and Snibston Discovery Park..
To purchase a Wild Card, or request a Half-Term Holiday Activity Programme, call Charnwood’s Sport and Active Recreation Ream on Loughborough (01509) 634 673, email leisure@charnwood.gov.uk or log on to www.charnwood.gov.uk/leisure.
