Three people from Mountsorrel near Loughborough have been charged with drugs related offences following a series of raids at addresses in the village.
The arrests were made on Thursday 6 September 2007 when a warrant was executed under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 at a property on Leicester Road in the village. Three people who were arrested and released on police bail have now been charged.
A 45 year old woman from Mountsorrel has been charged with possession of a Class B drug and is due to appear at Loughborough Magistrates Court on Friday 14 March. A 34 year old man, also from Mountsorrel, has been charged with possession of a Class A drug and failure to answer police bail. He is due to appear at Loughborough Magistrates Court on Monday 31 March. A 36 year old man from Mountsorrel has been charged with possession of a Class A drug and is due to appear at Loughborough Magistrates Court on Friday 14 March.
Twelve warrants have been carried out in the village in recent months under both the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and the Theft Act 1968.
A 37 year old woman from Mountsorrel was given a two year suspended prison sentence and ordered to do 300 hours unpaid work by Magistrates on Monday 21 January 2008, after pleading guilty to possessing and supplying Class C drugs.
Inspector Cathy Yallop, Commander of Charnwood Local Policing Unit said; "The publicity generated from our previous work to target drug dealers has had a positive impact on the local community and as public confidence has grown we have seen an increase in the intelligence coming to us which we have acted on and will continue to do so as part of out strategy to reduce drug misuse and related criminality. As well as enforcement action we will work with our partners in offender management to identify and offer support in terms of drug referral work to those that need it."
