Charnwood Arts Competition
Posted on 17/03/2008
J. Milton

Charnwood Arts is on the look out for creative people in and around Loughborough with the launch of two competitions.
The first competition is for those who have literary skill with the emphasis on brevity: miniWords 2008. There are three categories to this competition each of which carries a £250 first prize. The first category miniStories is for a narrative in prose or verse in 50 words or less. Then there is miniVerse where any verse form is acceptable as long as the word count is between 25 and 75 words. Finally the Haiku cetegory allows any form of haiku from traditional to contemporary including the ‘zip’.
Last years miniWORDS competition attracted 3,339 entries from both Charnwood and the East Midlands as well as entries from much further afield including Australia, America, Canada, India, West Indies, Mexico and New Zealand.
The second competition is for those who have a passion for photography. Entry is open to anyone, anywhere around the world over the age of 14 and is completely free of charge! The closing date is 31st May 2008.
There are three categories in this years photography competition:
Landscape
From an urban or rural environment
Decisive Moment
Capture that split second shot
Short Photo Essay
A set of six linked images of where you live
The first two categories both carry a £500 first prize. Second and third place, Commended and Highly Commended places will also be awarded in each category (although there are no prizes for these). One overall winner of the Short Photo Essay category will win a £1,000 first prize.
