Loughborough Students through to Euro Hockey quarter finals
Posted on 21/03/08

Loughborough Universitys mens hockey team have made it to the quarterfinals of top European knockout championship the Euro Hockey League after a 2-0 win over Belgian side Royal Antwerp this morning.
One of just three English club sides to make it to the final 16 of the competition the Loughborough Students, who were last week crowned British University Champions, held their nerve to earn their place in the last eight.
After a goalless first half in the opening match of the four-day event, two scores came in quick succession for the students courtesy of super-sub Robert Smith (55, FG) and Great Britain international Jon Bleby (64, PC). All 16 of the squad were involved in the match, including goalkeeper Alistair McGregor who was critical to the Great Britains Olympic qualification campaign in Chile earlier this month.
The Students now face the winners of the Uhlenhorster (Germany) v Azzurri Kelburne (Scotland) match this Sunday (23 March) at 12noon local time.
