Post Office Dismay
Posted on 23/03/2008
P. Klein

Local Prospective Conservative MP for Loughborough, Nicky Morgan, has voiced her dismay this week at current Loughborough MP, Andy Reeds, refusal to support a motion tabled by Conservatives in Westminster to save the 2500 Post Offices currently under threat of closure, including 3 in the Loughborough constituency.
In February, following a very limited and unsatisfactory consultation process, the Post Office announced its decision to close three post offices in the Loughborough constituency (Ashby Road, Meadow Lane, Walton on the Wolds) and to dramatically cut the service in Wymeswold, by providing instead an inadequate outreach service in the local pub. Andy Reed spoke out against the closure of the two central Loughborough post offices and also the changes to the Wymeswold branch.
Nicky said, "I am staggered that our Labour MP Andy Reed has sought to front "Save Our Post Offices" Campaigns in Loughborough and yet has voted to carry on with the Governments closure programme. I personally wrote to Andy before the debate on Wednesday, urging him to put party politics to one side and to vote for what was in the best interests of the people in our area as some Labour MPs in other areas of the country had committed themselves to doing."
Nicky went on to say "This vote proves what Loughboroughs current MP really believes about our Post Office Network. Im calling on Andy Reed to justify why he supports Post Office Closures and to explain this act of blatant hypocrisy to both local residents affected by the closures and changes and to the sub-postmasters who are going to lose their businesses."
