Unemployment in Loughborough

Figures just released for unemployment in the Loughborough and Charnwood areas shows the local area is faring well.
The figures for Charnwood show a fall in Febraury 2008 from 1.4% in January 2008 to 1.3%. (Resident-Based unemployment proportions).
During February there were 1,396 persons unemployed in Charnwood, 667 of whom were in Loughborough and Hathern. The worst area in Loughborough is the Hastings ward (162 people) followed by Lemyngton (119 people) and Shelthorpe (95 people).
A year ago unemployment in Loughborough was 2.0% indicating a drop of 0.3% over a period of 12 months.
Nationally The drop in jobless claims last month was the smallest since October 2006, however unemployment is now the lowest its been since July 1975.
