Care Home Sale
Posted on 04/04/08

Ten care providers interested in buying six County Council care homes have been shortlisted.
Leicestershire County Council today published the names of providers who have been invited to submit formal bids for six residential care homes by 6 May 2008.
David Sprason, Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, said: We are pleased that we have been able to shortlist 10 potential purchasers, from a large list of providers who expressed an interest in purchasing all six of our homes.
We are seeking purchasers interested in developing high quality services in partnership with the County Council and are confident we can achieve the best result for residents living at the six homes.
Last year, the County Council decided to transfer six homes - Catherine Dalley House in Melton, Hadrian House in Thurmaston, Huntingdon Court in Loughborough, Harvey House in Barwell, Kirby House in Kirby Muxloe and Woodmarket House in Lutterworth - as going concerns to independent providers. Existing residents and staff will be able to remain there.
Silverdale, a learning disability hostel due to close in May, which is next to the Catherine Dalley site, is also being offered for sale through this process.
A considerable number of companies expressed an interest and a total of 10 care providers have now been shortlisted (full details are listed at the end of this release).
Detailed bids must be returned by May 6. The Council will evaluate, in detail, bids over the summer, before making a final decision on a successful purchaser. Details will be available in June and all six homes will transfer to the new owner in December.
Further Information:
The Council already makes 85 per cent of its care placements (1,575 people) in independent sector care homes.
As part of the current plan, the Council will retain its four other residential care homes for older people - Lenthall House in Market Harborough, Curtis Weston House in Wigston, The Limes in Hinckley and Tillson House in Coalville so they can provide specialist support, such as dementia care.
The County Council will also draw up further plans to develop extra-care schemes across Leicestershire, in partnership with District Councils and housing providers.
