JEREMY METCALFE - BRITISH GT KNOCKHILL PREVIEW
Posted on 04/04/2008
J. Milton
Jeremy Metcalfe heads north of the border to Knockhill Circuit near Fife next weekend, 12th/13th April, for the third and fourth rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship.
Having shown very impressive pace on his British GT debut at Oulton Park International Circuit in Cheshire just under a fortnight ago, the former Loughborough University student has high hopes of kick-starting his season in Scotland after gearbox problems saw an almost guaranteed podium result go begging during the season-opener.
Although marking his first visit to Knockhill at the wheel of his Ferrari 430 GT3 car, next weekend’s action won’t actually be the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star’s maiden sportscar experience at the track. Last year, Jeremy was invited to drive the VIP car in the penultimate two rounds of the 2007 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship.
The race ace, who celebrates his 20th birthday this coming Wednesday, 9th April, has adapted from single-seaters to sportscars extremely well and he has high hopes of steering his glorious Ferrari, which is run by Bardon-based CR Scuderia, to a brace of podium finishes at Knockhill. In truth, he’s confident of challenging for race victory in both encounters.
“I’m really looking forward to Knockhill, it’s a track I have experienced before in a GT3 car so I’m confident we can go very well indeed next weekend”, said Jeremy, “The team tested at Knockhill last week and although I wasn’t able to take part due to the problem with our car from Oulton Park, I’m confident I’ll be able to hit the ground running.
“Luke (Hines CR Scuderia team-mate) and I are definitely going out to win both races, I think it’s a realistic aim as I’m confident we’ll be very quick. It’s a short and narrow track, so it will be important to get some clear qualifying laps, but if all goes well I’m confident we’ll be in a position to win.”
Jeremy, who famously appeared as a contestant on the Big Brother: Celebrity Hijack reality TV show in January, will take part in un-timed practice at 09.50 on Saturday, 12th April, with qualifying to follow at 13.20 and round three timetabled to start at 15.53. On Sunday, 13th April, the fourth round of the season is scheduled to begin at 13.38.
Highlights of the first two rounds of the 2008 Avon Tyres British GT Championship season will be screened tomorrow, Saturday, 5th April, at 18.00 on cable and digital satellite station Motors TV. On Sunday, 6th April, highlights will also be broadcast on Channel 4 at 07.30.
