The Big Knitting Group invites you to join in with this years big knitting challenge knitting a Picnic!

Charnwood Artss Big Knitting Group was formed during last years Heart Of Three Cities Festival as a response to the knitting advice booth at Picnic In The Park.

The group was such a hit that it continues to meet on a Thursday afternoon at Charnwood Museum between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Now group members are using their new skills to knit picnic food, including, cakes sandwiches, olives, fruit and sweets, all stuffed to look like the real thing.

If you think that you can knit an orange, stitch a cup cake or knot together a sandwich then Charnwood Arts is looking forward to hearing from you.

Please send in or drop your knitted picnic food at the Charnwood Arts office on Granby Street, Loughborough or bring the food along to Picnic In The Park at Loughboroughs Queens Park on Saturday May 17th. All food will be added to the Big Knitting Group Display on the day.

Donations of your knitted treats are also being sought to be sold at the Streets Alive Festival on Monday 26th May where they will be sold from the Charnwood Arts Stall in the town centre.

All proceeds will go to Charnwood Arts projects and a donation will be made to the Charnwood Christmas Toy Appeal.

Patterns for knitting up food are available to download for free from http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com

Organiser Jemma Bagley gave a few top tips for aspiring knitters:

Please used recycled wool if you can or why not go for something completely different, such as shredded plastic bags or string. Dont buy expensive stuffing materials - old clothing is ideal

For all enquires about the challenge or the Big Knitting Group, please ring Jemma Bagley on 01509-821035 or e-mail her at jemmab@charnwood-arts.org.uk.
