If the annual household income is below £30,810 and the course is a full-time further education course at a college or school or an LSC-funded Diploma or Entry to Employment (e2e) course there is a likelihood of being eligible for the allowance which is paid directly into the bank of the young person and doesn’t effect any other household benefit. Young people receiving EMA must sign a contract with their school or college, and payments are linked to attendance and behaviour.

The Loughborough MP Andy Reed stated “the Education Maintenance Allowances are helping young people across the country to continue learning after their GCSEs.
