policeman keeping his eye on thingsThe police in Charnwood are tackling speeding on every neighbourhood beat across the policing area that has highlighted it as a problem.

Local consultation has shown that speeding is a major concern for residents on many neighbourhood beats. Officers have launched a concerted two week campaign to tackle the problem by running speed checks in local villages and using a mixture of verbal advice, written warnings and, where necessary, giving out speeding tickets which result in a £60 fine and three points on the motorists driving license.

speed By working together across the LPU area we realised we could be more effective, have a higher visibility presence and, hopefully, get the message through to people that speeding is not acceptable.

"Weve had some very positive responses from residents during the first week who were pleased to see us tackling the problem and talking to, and advising, motorists.

"At the end of the day, motorists who speed are breaking the law, driving too fast is dangerous and someone could get killed. Speed limits are there for a reason, to keep motorists and pedestrians safe, so we would urge people to stick to them."
