Loughborough University clamps down on rogue parkers

car being hoistedLoughborough University is taking proactive steps to ensure that the minority of students who park inconsiderately affecting some Loughborough residents.

In a joint statement by Will Spinks, the Chief Operating Officer and David Gerty, President of the Student’s Union, the small number of people on campus who are bringing the good name of the University into disrepute with residents adjacent to the campus were told to obey the regulations.

A few problems have occured in some of the streets around the campus, primarily Ashleigh Drive, New Ashby Road, Holywell Drive and Derwent Drive. In these areas the roads have restrictions in place by the Local Authority whereby parking is restricted.

The students were advised that there has been an operation by the University to identify offenders and they could be subject to the University’s disciplinary procedure which could potentially effect their studies. Furthermore the University is discussing the matter with officers at Loughborough Policing Unit with a view to enforcement. Rogue parkers could face not only parking tickets but also having their cars impounded.

The 15,000 students of the University have also been urged to consider if they really need to travel to the University, to consider alternative alternatives and not bring the damage the name of one of the highest ranking universities.
