WHEELY GREAT EVENT TO LAUNCH RURAL RIDES!
Posted on 22/04/2008
P. Klein
A WHEELY great event will mark the launch of Charnwood Borough Council’s Rural Rides programme this weekend.
Four rides have been arranged for individuals and families during April, National Bike Week in June and September by the Authority’s Leisure Services Team.
The schedule kicks off this Sunday, April 27th, with a Steam Train and Pedalling Picnic, which comprises of a trip on the Great Central Railway followed by a 10 mile cycle ride to Swithland and Mountsorrel.
Tickets, priced at £5 for adults and £3 for children, are now on sale for the event, which includes a trip on the 11.23 steam train from Quorn to Rothley via Leicester.
After a short ride to Woodhouse for lunch, there will be an easy-paced ride through Charnwood Forest back to Quorn with a stop at Stonehurst Farm for afternoon tea.
Ian Matthews, Charnwood Borough Council’s Physical Activity Development Officer, said: “The Steam Train and Pedalling Picnic is a very popular event with cyclists of all ages and we’d advise people to book their places quickly as tickets are selling fast.
“Cycling is one of the best physical activities you can take part in as it can be as gentle or as strenuous as you chose. It’s cheap to do, it has enormous health benefits and is an excellent way to get around.”
