Loughborough University is ranked third for student satisfaction – below only Cambridge and St Andrews – in The Good University Guide, a national league table.

The guide, published for the first time in association with The Independent newspaper, judges institutions on nine measures: student satisfaction, research assessment, entry standards, student/staff ratio, spending on academic services, spending on other facilities, degree results, graduate prospects and completion rates.

Overall Loughborough is in 13th position in the guide, placing it firmly among the UK’s academic elite. In the individual subject tables the University is ranked in the top ten in 14 of the tables.

Ian Cairns, Loughborough’s Director of Marketing said: “I am delighted that the University has achieved yet another top 15 position in a national league table. It is further confirmation of Loughborough’s status as one of the country’s leading universities.”

Loughborough achieves consistently high rankings in national league tables. For three years running it has been rated in the top five in the National Student Survey, topping the tables for ‘overall satisfaction’ in five subject areas in the 2007 survey, with 89% of students saying they were satisfied with the quality of their course.

In the Times Good University Guide 2008 Loughborough was first for ‘Student Satisfaction’, was in the top three for ‘Teaching’ in the Sunday Times League Table 2007, and ninth overall in The Guardian University Guide 2008.

For two years running – 2006 and 2007 – the University has won the Times Higher Award for ‘Best Student Experience’. Loughborough was rated highly by its students for the community atmosphere, extracurricular activities and societies, and the good environment on campus and around the University. In 2007 the University was also winner of the ‘Outstanding Support for Overseas Students’ award, where Loughborough’s Careers Service, Students’ Union and visa advice were among the services that international students rated highly.
