Climate Change Conference
Posted on 24/04/2008
P. Klein
A CONFERENCE addressing the role that businesses can play in tackling climate change will take place in the city next month.
‘Reducing the carbon costs of your business’ will focus on the key issues facing organisations as they try to cut their carbon footprint.
Experts from the city council will address the conference, covering topics ranging from travel to energy management, and there’ll be a presentation by a local company that’s already pledged to cut its carbon footprint.
“Businesses are facing increasing pressure to improve their environmental credentials,” said Cllr Michael Cooke, chair of the Leicester Partnership’s climate change board.
“By adopting a proactive approach, particularly with regard to managing energy and water consumption, businesses will be able to comply with environmental legislation while making significant financial savings.”
The Leicester Partnership will also use the conference to launch its Climate Change Action Plan Toolkit – a handy CD that will help businesses to produce their own action plans.
‘Reducing the carbon costs of your business’ takes place on Tuesday May 20th at the City Rooms on Hotel Street, Leicester. Delegate registration will start at 9am, with a locally-sourced fair trade buffet lunch bringing the conference to a close at 2pm.
The conference is being organised by Leicester City Council and sponsored by Business Link and the European Commission-funded ‘BELIEF’ project.
Attendance at the conference is free of charge, but places should be reserved in advance. Local businesses wishing to book a place should call Business Link on 0845 058 6644 or email events@businesslinkem.co.uk
