police officerPolice Officers from Loughborough Policing Unit are appealing for witnesses after a 23-year-old man was assaulted in Loughborough.

Itt happened at around 12.15 in the morning on Tuesday April 22, 2008 as the victim of the incident was walking along Forest Road in Loughborough in the direction of Nanpantan Road.

As he approached Emmanuel church, he became aware of a pack of between 6 to 7 youths walking towards him. After he passed by them, a bottle was thrown at his head.

The victim understandably began to run and they chased him before one of them struck him on the arm with a bottle.

The group then made off after the incident towards the town centre. They have all been described as white, between 16 and 18-years-old and were wearing hooded tops.

The victim was later treated at the Leicester Royal Infirmary for an injury to his arm and has subsequently been discharged.

Police Constable Jason Foster, who is responsible for investigating the incident, said: "The victim has been left extremely upset by the assault and has already lost earnings as he is currently unable to work due to his injuries.

"We are very keen to trace a man who approached the victim who said he had been assaulted by the group before this incident. As far as we are aware this person has not contacted us to report an incident of assault and we would be very keen to speak to him as he would be a vital witness to this incident.

"Were you in the Forest Road area at this time in the morning? Did you witness this assault and saw a group matching this description? If so I would urge you to get in touch. Even the smallest details could prove vital to this investigation."
