Opening of exhibition at Charnwood Museum by Bryan PageTonight (28th April 2008) saw the opening of an exhibition of historical illustrations by prominent local artist Bryan Page.

The opening of the exhibition at Charnwood Museum in Loughborough was attended by a large number of people including the Chairman of Leicestershire County Council Mike Jones with his wife Marj and Deputy Mayor of Charnwood Councillor Ken Pacey J.P..

For anyone who is unaware of Bryan’s work he has an exceptional talent for bringing things to life. He accomplishes this by firstly researching the topic he is working on in great depth, for example in the Beacon Hill exhibition work he spent so much time up there studying the finest detail that his wife wondered where he had got to.Secondly he creates sketches to really plan things to the last detail and establish how his composition will fit together. Finally he produces marvelous pictures that really does deserve special treatment.

This produces work that is well thought out, has a purpose, is pleasing to the eye and gives a moving impression of the past.

He could quite easily fill a large gallery with his exceptional work however the exhibition at the museum in Loughborough will amaze with illustrations of various places nearby including the Rushes in Loughborough, Beacon Hill, Mountsorrel Market Place, Donington Le Heath, Grace Dieu Priory to name a few. his working sketches used in the production of the final work are also on show.

Mike Jones, who was the inspiration behind the creation of the Charnwood Museum almost 10 years ago was especially impressed with the exhibition. He also found the pictures of Donington Le Heath of special interest as back in 1970 when he was on the County Records Committee he attended meetings there where the tables were planks of wood on beer barrels and the chairs were orange boxes. Straw was placed on the floor for two reasons, both to keep the feet warm and also protect the feet from what the previous occupants, a heard of pigs, had left behind them.

The exhibition runs from today until 1st June 2008.
