Loughborough University’s top two rugby sides and its newly-established futsal team face educational adversaries University of Bath tomorrow (30 April) in the Real Varsity clash.

Three student fixtures and a community final make up the 2008 Real Varsity taking place on the University campus from 4pm. Now in its fourth year, this year’s Real Varsity is the biggest yet with a 4,000 capacity stadium erected around the University’s 1st XV pitch.

Loughborough’s rugby squad are defending an impressive record that has seen them beat their South West rivals every year since the competition began. And after reaching both the County Cup and national student finals in the last month, but narrowly missing both titles, the students are hoping to turnaround a disappointing end to one of their best ever seasons.

“The Real Varsity is an opportunity for us to make amends for the last month’s results on a big stage in front of home supporters,” said Loughborough Students Head Coach Dave Morris. “We’ve had a difficult month results-wise but as a squad of players and coaching staff we know success is measured on how you bounce back from your lowest ebb.

“We’ve not seen Bath play this year and to look at their results in their BUSA Premier South campaign we have to be the favourites. But Bath are always hugely competitive and are likely to bring a strong team so we can’t be complacent.

“The Real Varsity is a brilliant showcase of student sport and a great occasion for all involved. And with the BOOST community final taking place in front of a huge crowd it also celebrates the work our students do with local schools.”

Loughborough Students women’s 1st XV provide the curtain raiser for the men’s fixture from 5.15pm, immediately followed by the BOOST tag rugby community final between local primary schools Booth Wood and Holywell. And in the first ever demo on the University campus, Loughborough’s skydiving team drop in to deliver the main event match ball for the 7.30pm start.

There’s another first for the University’s Futsal team, who face rivals Bath in the inaugural FA Umbro Futsal League fixture on campus. Kick off is at 4pm in the main sports hall.

Tickets for all four fixtures are available on the gate for £10 (£5 for under-16s) and include a free hot meal and drinks. Tickets for the Futsal match only are available at £1 per person. For those unable to attend action will be broadcast live online by LSUTV from 4.40pm via www.lboro.ac.uk <http://www.lboro.ac.uk/>
