Freefest Festival
Posted on 05/05/2008
Loughborough University Student’s Union held their annual Freefest today (Monday 5th May 2008).
Part of the Loughborough campus resembled a shanty town comprising of gazebos and tents this afternoon, with smoke from barbecues drifting into the air. People had presumably come prepared for wet weather, however despite being a Bank Holiday Monday in England, they provided shelter and shade from the unseasonal (?) sunny weather.
Starting at midday, band after band appeared on the two stages and were of exceptional standard. All bands were well received and the variety of music provided something for everyone. Starting on stage were Silent Aeon, followed by Cloud Nostalgia, Flowerpot Men, Kids with Sticks, Blindfolds Aside, Krish, Carlton Cole, Ghandi’s Flip Flop, Rugged Sound System and Dead Slow. Featured on the second stage (acoustic) were Stagnation Point, Arcadian, Phil and Judy, Feather Heavy, Julia and Kristian, Perry Quinton, Stewart Bamrah, Bruce Scott and finally Ryan Meks & Laura Paxton.
In between acts the crowd were entertained by Loughborough Campus Radio.
Fairly promptly after opening the venue in front of Rutland Hall became packed with people enjoying the atmosphere. If people fancied a break from the music then there were other activities such as fairground rides to enjoy.

The event, which was open to all (the whole of Loughborough and Charnwood being invited), must be the best free music festival in the area and the atmosphere was especially friendly. It has become a annual event and Loughborough Students Union were praised for putting together such a crowd pleaser. There are further pictures (approximately 300) of the days events in the albums.
