Loughborough Protests
Posted on 06/05/2008
P. Klein
YES MAY BE NO
Back in May 1968 there was a wave of student protests in Paris. On the 40th anniversary of these events Loughborough University’s Art Organisation (RADAR) is staging a series of artistic projects. “Life Is Interesting... When You’re Furious” is in response to the events of 40 years ago. Craig Coulthard is one of the artists involved with his work “Yes May Be No” and he would like to know what the people of Loughborough today want to protest about. It could be CCTV, Allotments, Homophobia, the Police, Garendon Park, Crime ... He is asking the people of Loughborough what they want to protest about. He is also asking the public to let him know what political, social and cultural issues, locally, nationally or even internationally, they would like to protest about. With the collected information he will be designing and printing a series of posters inspired by the posters of Paris 1968.
These posters will then be used to decorate a small hut Craig has constructed. Then on Bank Holiday Monday (26th May 2008) the posters and the hut will take part in a procession across Loughborough from the University campus to the centre of town, which will also include a band, banners, flowers and horses.
The residents of Loughborough are take time to take part in this project and help get whatever you like off your chest. You can even draw a poster for your protest and it will be included in the procession.
If you want to contact Craig Coulthard by email at goldeneagle800@yahoo.co.uk or you can send your comments and poster designes to him at
SRC Office, Edinburgh College of Art, Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, EH3 9JA.
