2008 Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth Games in Loughborough

ASPIRING young athletes are being called upon to pit their wits against teams from across the county in an action packed day of sports next month.
Leicester City Council is on the look out for boys and girls of all ages to take part in the 2008 Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth Games a countywide competition being held on the 20th June at Loughborough Leisure Centre and on the 22nd June at Loughborough University.
Youngsters of different ages are being invited to take part in trial sessions in a range of sports, from athletics to hockey.
Boys and girls in school years five, six and seven are being sought to join the athletics team.
Basketball and cricket players of both sexes from school years five and six are also needed to represent the city.
Any youngster who would like to play badminton for the city should be in school year nine or ten.
Girls in years seven and eight are needed to play netball while boys and girls in the same age group are being sought to play hockey for the city.
Swimming trials will also take place for youngsters in school years four, five and six.
Any child who would like to represent Leicester City in the Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth Games must live or go to school in the city. All trials and training sessions are free of charge with trial sessions taking place between 10th May and 6th June.
Claire Appleby, city council sports regeneration officer, said: The Leicester-Shire and Rutland Youth Games is an initiative to get more young people involved in sport.
It is the perfect opportunity for young people to play their favourite sport, receive quality coaching and compete against other young people from the other districts within Leicestershire and Rutland.
