Loughborough Library

There are a couple events coming up at the library in Loughborough shortly.

Discover the delights of cyber-life at the library. Nearly 10 million over-50s in the UK havent yet discovered the benefits of the internet and Silver Surfers Day aims to change that.

On Friday 23rd May libraries across Leicestershire will be offering free sessions for the over 50s to get them started on the internet and give them an appetite for more. From keeping in touch with friends and family across the globe to booking a holiday, doing the shopping, sharing photographs, catching up with missed TV programmes and much, much more, the internet has something for everyone.

The library, with its informal, relaxed atmosphere and friendly, supportive staff to help, is an ideal place to take that first step to getting online. All libraries have computers for public use and access to the internet is free.

Silver Surfers Day is part of Adult Learners Week, a national campaign encouraging people to try something new. During the

Week 17th - 23rd May there will be a range of free activities in libraries across the county.

Chinese delights in libraries. Explore the language and culture of China in libraries across Leicestershire during Cultural Diversity Weekend, 17th and 18th May.

Mandarin Chinese language taster sessions at Oadby, Hinckley, Blaby and Loughborough; Tai Chi at Coalville; Chinese calligraphy at Oadby and Market Harborough; origami workshops at Loughborough; and Chinese cookery demonstrations at Shepshed and Ashby are just some of the free activities on offer.

These Chinese themed events continue Leicestershire Library Services Focus on China promotion, celebrating 20 years of twinning between the county and Chinas Sichuan province.

Cultural Diversity Weekend is the start of Adult Learners Week, a national campaign and a great opportunity for adults to have a go at something new by trying out free taster sessions.

For a full programme of free events in Leicestershire libraries during Cultural Diversity Weekend and Adult Learners Week contact your local Leicestershire library or go to www.leics.gov.uk/libraries.
