Loughborough Picnic in the Park
Posted on 18/05/2008
Rhys

Braving the damp weather yesterday (17th May 2008) visitors to Loughborough had plenty to entertain them.
If you went to the Loughboroughs Market Place then you would have surely heard the Gospel Singers even if you didn’t see them. Then there was the nanotechnology exhibition in the air domes inflated in Granby Street Car Park. Alternatively there was the opening of the ‘Protest’ photography exhibition at the Charnwood Museum showing the works of six Polish photographers.

But the main item on the calender yesterday was the Picnic in the Park organised by Charnwood Arts, now in its 28th year and opened by the newly elected Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood, Councillor Stephen Campbell and Councillor Mrs. Brenda Seaton respectively. The Mayor and Mayoress later joined Councillor Mike Jones, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council, at the Charnwood Museum to open the photography exhibition.

Although the weather must have played a significant part in keeping the attendence figures lower than previous years those that were venturing out obviously had a great time listening to the live music, watching the entertainers or taking part themselves. Many came prepared or there were tarpaulins available from some performers.
Photographs of the days events in Loughborough’s Town Centre and in Queen’s Park are in the albums.
