Loughborough graduate Fiona Pennie will make her Olympic debut in Beijing after being named in Team GBs canoe slalom squad.

The former sports scholar is one of three canoeists named today by the British Olympic Association and will compete in the Womens Kayak Single.

Fiona qualified last month (April) with double victory at the canoe slalom Olympic selection event in Holland. The Scottish national, a World Championship silver medallist in 2006, was a comfortable winner in the K1 class to become to only woman to qualify for Britain in canoe slalom.

I am looking forward to taking part in the biggest sporting event in the world and to have this opportunity to represent Great Britain is very special, she said.

Pennie, now 25, gained a BSc in Sports Technology in June 2003.
