Loughborough graduate Donna Kellogg has been named in the British badminton squad for this summer’s Beijing Olympics.

Kellogg has been selected for the women’s doubles alongside Athens Olympic medallist Gail Emms and will also team up with mixed doubles partner Anthony Clark, who she partnered for the recent European Championship title, for her third Olympic appearance in China.

“To attend an Olympic Games is very special,” she said. “It’s the pinnacle of every athlete’s career and I’m looking forward to the challenge of competing for medals.”

Former Loughborough badminton coach Andy Wood will lead Team GB Badminton at the Games and believes the squad has podium potential.

"After a long and demanding qualification period we are delighted to have qualified such an exciting team,” said Wood. “The blend of youth, experience and personalities ensures a dynamic Team GB badminton environment.

“You can be sure that this team will be ready and competing optimally to be amongst the medal meltdown.”

Team GB’s badminton squad is on campus today (Friday 22 May) for their first training session since the Olympic team was announced.
