Getting to grips with graffiti in Loughborough
Posted on 16/06/2008
P. Klein
Graffiti is sometimes artistic, however more often than not regarded as unsightly damage or vandalism.
Just over a week ago Charnwood Borough Council announced new graffiti protocols on how they were going to deal with graffiti in and around Loughborough. These protocols stated what the Council would do and also what the Council would expect from owners of properties subjected to unwanted lettering or images scrawled over them.
At the same time the local Labour group highlighted areas where graffiti wasn’t being removed promptly.
In an effort to see how well Charnwood Borough Council dealt with a report of graffiti, the team at in-Loughborough advised the council of a large amount of graffiti which was on the hoarding around the undeveloped section of the land at Loughborough Wharf. The hoarding was then monitored on a daily basis. The initial report was made on a Friday and a few days later most of the defamatory words were painted out. Then by the following Friday all the graffiti was painted over.
During this period reports of graffiti at Regents Place Retail Park in Loughborough were also made and that was removed within 48 hrs.
Obviously Charnwood Borough Council is taking the problem of graffiti in and around Loughborough seriously. Well Done Charnwood!
