poverty in the third world

Andy Reed backed the Micah Challenge in Parliament. Andy helped launch the UK Challenge in parliament a couple of years ago.

The Micah challenge aims to raise the issues of justice and poverty in people’s minds and campaign for the end to poverty. The event took place alongside the National Prayer Breakfast and called on MPs to take up the challenge and respond to the issue of global poverty.

Andy said:

"The Micah Challenge helps keep global poverty reduction and the work toward the Millennium Development Goals at the heart of our thinking."

"With sharp global price increases in food and oil it would be all too easy to forget that it is the poorest in the world who will feel the effect most. Indeed it would be too easy to forget that as our quality of life has increased beyond recognition over the last decade the poorest in the world have continued to suffer. Still 30,000 children a day die of preventable diseases.

The Micah Challenge makes sure we do not forget the genuinely poor who work to maintain our comfortable western lifestyles."
