Leicestershire County Council’s Highways Branch scooped a top award at a national award ceremony this week.

The 4ps Awards for Excellence in Public Private Partnerships award was received at a presentation in London on June 19.

The department topped the bill in the sustainability category for the Footway Recycler - a unique, lorry-mounted machine which can recycle existing path resurfacing material on site.

Leicestershire Highways also received a highly commended accolade in the efficiency category for their establishment of the Midlands Highways Alliance – a partnership working scheme involving 10 local authorities.

Nicholas Rushton, Deputy Leader for the County Council, who has responsibilities for Highways, received one of the awards.

He said: “We are delighted to have done so well in these awards. It proves the considerable amount of pioneering work being achieved in Leicestershire

"This illustrates how collaborative working, innovation and customer focus are embedded in the department and I am delighted that the excellent year-round work of our Highways staff has been recognised and appreciated”

Chris Wilson, 4ps’ executive director, said: “I am delighted to announce this year’s award winners. We were very impressed with the Footway Recycling project which is an example of a highly successful project that has made a real contribution to Leicestershire.”
