Prize for Rubbish Competition in Loughborough
Posted on 08/07/2008
THE winner of a children’s recycling competition held at Loughborough’s Picnic in the Park has been revealed - with the lucky participant receiving his prize for completing a waste and recycling wordsearch.
Callum was chosen at random and sent a board game based around recycling to play with his family and friends.
The competition, run by Charnwood Borough Council, took place on Queen’s Park in May, where the annual Picnic in the Park took place.
Plenty of entertainment was on offer on the day, which was enjoyed by all, despite the rain.
The recycling wordsearch competition, aimed at Charnwood’s young people, proved to be very popular with many children taking part.
But there could only be one winner and Callum was very pleased to be drawn out of the hat after handing in his completed wordsearch.
Cllr Mike Preston, Cabinet Member for the Environment at Charnwood Borough Council, said: “Events such as these, where a large number of local people get together, are brilliant for helping the council in our continued promotion of recycling and waste minimisation.
“By getting the younger generation to participate in activities like this, we are getting them to think about reducing, reusing and recycling their waste from an early age, which is good news for their futures.”
