Progress on Eastern Gateway project is great news for Loughborough
Posted on 09/07/2008
Nicky Morgan, prospective Conservative MP for Loughborough, has welcomed news that Charnwood Councils Cabinet has given its approval to progress the Eastern Gateway Project in the town. The project involves redevelopment of the land around Loughborough station, the provision of housing (including 99 affordable homes), a new link road between Meadow Lane and Nottingham Road and, eventually, improved parking and facilities at the station.
Nicky said, "This is very welcome news for all local residents. The area is a real gateway to the town and beyond and, at the moment, does not do it justice. We have large numbers of visitors to Loughborough and I want them to be impressed by their first views of the town. This area is going to be used to an even greater extent as we get closer to the 2012 Olympics when I am sure the town will be receiving increasing numbers of visitors. Loughborough Station has also been asked to take part in a pilot scheme to promote sustainable travel which shows what an important station it is. Successful completion of the Eastern Gateway project will only add to this view."
She added, "This is an exciting scheme which will benefit future home owners, businesses and commuters and transform this part of Loughborough. I am delighted that progress is being made after a number of years when matters have been moving slowly."
