CHARNWOOD Borough Council has successfully retained its Investors in People (IiP) status – despite the introduction of new tougher standards.

IiP Assessor David Melton interviewed more than 40 members of staff during his recent three-day visit to Charnwood Borough Council’s Southfields Offices.

Everyone interviewed, including senior managers, had been randomly selected by the assessor and they were asked a series of questions on how well the Council met the new standards.

Mr Melton last visited the Council three years ago and identified a number of improvements from his previous inspection.

In his report, he wrote: “Charnwood Borough Council has moved forward a long way on the way it meets the Investors in People standard.

“There have been huge improvements in the way people are managed and developed and I believe that you are particularly good at continual self-review, evaluation and change management.

“There is renewed optimism in the Council and the evidence requirements are met much more easily than last time.”

Cllr Richard Shepherd, the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “I should like to congratulate everyone concerned on this achievement.

“It’s really good news that we have made so much progress and I’m looking forward to further developments.”

Brian Hayes, the Chief Executive of Charnwood Borough Council, added: “I am delighted that the assessor has acknowledged that significant progress has been made at Charnwood since we were last assessed in 2005.

“The assessor has given the Council a number of pointers on how we can improve the organisation further and we will be looking to include these within the programme of work that is planned following consultation on the new Corporate Plan.”
