Seven Loughborough students have been included in British squads for the forthcoming University World Rugby 7s Championship in Spain (16-19 July).

Loughboroughs men provide five of the 12-strong British squad with England students Simon Pitfield, Jamie Hood and Patrick Dias joining university team mates Simon Lilley and Peter Clarke. Loughborough head rugby coach Dave Morris has been appointed head coach for the team and University physiotherapist Paula Wilde has also been named in the support staff.

Meanwhile students Hannah Balson and Ollie Poore have been named in the British womens squad for the tournament.

The British teams will be up against nations including Canada, France, Italy and Kazakhstan as they make their first appearance at the competition for two years.

Its testament to our rugby programme that so many players have been selected for the British Universities 7s squad, said Morris. The Championships provide an excellent development opportunity for both our players and staff and we look forward to joining with athletes from other Universities to represent Britain at this international tournament.

The Championship takes place in the city of Crdoba, Spain from 16 to 19 July 2008.
