Loughborough Tory Candidate Voices Growing Concern over VED
Posted on 14/07/2008
Local Prospective Conservative MP for Loughborough, Nicky Morgan, has spoken out against the Governments planned increase of Vehicle Excise Duty which will hit local families very hard as they are already struggling to cope with a difficult financial climate.
Justine Greening, Conservative MP for Putney and a Shadow Treasury Spokesperson, has conducted an analysis which has shown that 400,000 of Britains lowest earners would pay a minimum of £80 a year more following the proposed changes with some having to pay almost £250 extra per year. The increases would hit the pockets of nearly 9 million Britons overall. The move has also been criticised heavily by automotive groups such as the RAC, with even Greenpeace saying it gives Green Taxes a bad name.
Showing her support for Justine Greenings analysis Nicky said, "This move by a Labour Government is yet another attack on those low income earners that they once claimed to represent. This is a shameful move by Gordon Browns Labour Party, having already delivered a slap in the face with the abolition of the 10p tax rate, to those already facing massive difficulties. After years of mismanagement of our economy Gordon Brown has no money left to spend and this is another desperate attempt to raise funds at the expense of the electorate whilst doing little or nothing to save our environment."
