County Air Ambulance Lands in Loughborough
Posted on 22/07/2008
The county air ambulance was called out to an accident in Loughborough this evening.
A cyclist came off his bike on the canal tow path just south of the Belton Road Bridge just after 8pm (22nd July 2008).
One person who was walking his dog along the towpath told inLoughborough “When I arrived there were already two people assisting the gentlemen who was in his 50s. He had obviously received a serious injury as there was a large pool of blood coming from under him”.
The air ambulance arrived at the scene just before 8:20 and was seen circling the area several times whilst police cordoned off Belton Road and cleared it of traffic and pedestrians to allow the helicopter to carefully land between lamp posts at the apex of the bridge.
The injured person received immediate treatment from the highly trained crew of the helicopter which typically involves paramedics and a doctor before being carried on a stretcher by 7 people up the steps from the tow path to the waiting helicopter.
The helicopter then took off at approximately 9pm to take the casualty to hospital.
The County Air Ambulance service is funded by the public and is dedicated to the communities it serves. If you want to find out more about the air ambulance or wish to support their invaluable work you can visit their website www.countyairambulance.org
