Eric Goodyer, Labours Prospective MP for Charnwood is backing Brown
Posted on 28/07/2008
Eric Goodyer, Labours Prospective MP for Charnwood has expressed his support Gordon Brown. He his outstanding record as Chancellor, makes him the best person to lead Britain through the current world economic crisis. Employment levels are still at a record high of 29.6 million, according to the latest Labour Market Statistics. Employment continues to grow, despite problems in the banking sector, with over 400,000 more people in work than this time last year. Claimant levels continue to fall, with the number of people claiming unemployment benefits below the level of a year ago and remaining close to its lowest level for 30 years. This trend to higher employment levels, has been independently confirmed by the International Labour Organisation.
It appears that the economy and labour market are restructuring to take account of the well publicised falls in the finance & property sectors being offset by growth in other parts of the economy. The current slowdown has reduced annual growth, yet vacancies remain historically high, with redundancies also increasing but still at low levels.
Eric Goodyer said “We are going through difficult times, but record employment levels, and growth outside of the finance sector are early indications that economy is adapting to changing conditions”
“The time to judge Gordon Brown is at the end of the year, when we can assess how well he has managed the world economic crisis. If the economy comes right in 2009 we will win a 4th term.”
