Stretch your legs with Loughboroughs Great Central Railway
Posted on 01/08/2008
P. Klein
Get out, stretch you legs and enjoy the best Leicestershire countryside is the message from the Loughborough based Great Central Railway. The railway has developed a brand new full colour “Walks from the line guide” complete with easy to read maps so even novice ramblers can find their way.
To go with the guide, from the 1st of August the railway is offering a new ticket, a “Walk One Way” fare – WOW for short! It will mean groups of walkers can save money.
“The new walks guide has been written by one of our volunteers,” explained marketing assistant Lynn Hill, “and we think it will be very popular. There are point to point walks between our stations so it’s easy to combine a trip on the train with a return leg under steam power! Hence the idea to offer a discount fare for walking groups.”
There are ten walks in the guide with full maps and instructions as well as a little bit of local history. The book is ring bound so the pages can be folded back, making it a durable guide which is easy to refer to ‘en route’ – not that the walks are particularly difficult…
“You won’t need to be a hardened explorer to use the booklet explained Lynn, it’s good fun and designed to get people switched on to discovering the countryside around the Great Central.”
The new Walk One Way fare means when groups of three or four people buy single tickets between any two stations, one or two of them will travel free. The fare is valid from the 1st of August and the new guide book is in the station shops at the railway now. It costs just £2.99
