PARTNERS PULL TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

OFFICERS from Charnwood Borough Council will join forces with the police, fire service and primary care trust to help improve a local community.

The Mountsorrel Partnership Action Event is being staged following a successful ward walk which was held in May.

Residents highlighted a number of concerns during the walk and while the majority have been dealt with, the Partnership will focus on a number of key issues including dog fouling, fire safety, graffiti and youth engagement.

The Borough Council, police and fire services will be supporting the Family Fun Day, which has been organised by the Mountsorrel Youth Development Group, at Halstead Road playing fields between 12pm and 4pm on Saturday, August 16.

Activities will continue on Monday, August 18 when representatives from the Partnership will be based in the Memorial Hall Car Park, in Leicester Road, to hand out information on fire safety, anti-social behaviour and recycling.

The Council’s Play Rangers will be at Halstead Road Playing Field on Tuesday, August 19 between 12pm and 2pm with activities for youngsters aged between five and 11-years-old, while a Wriggly reader’s session is being held at Mountsorrel Library from 2pm to 4pm.

In the evening, a graffiti workshop will be held next when the ‘Graffman’ will be working with 11 to 16-year-olds between 6.30pm and 9.30pm at the Mountsorrel Methodist Church.

On Wednesday, August 20, the Council, fire and police services will be at the Halstead Road playing fields giving out crime and fire prevention advice and the local Primary Care Trust will be helping local residents who are trying to give up smoking.

Councillor David Snartt, Charnwood’s Cabinet member for Community Safety, said: “I am delighted that we are continuing to make a difference within our priority areas.

“Again this is a real opportunity for partners to work together for the benefit of residents. Following a recent ward walk around this area, I believe this shows that all partners are committed to improving the way services are delivered to the local community.

“This will again be an ideal time to engage with local residents, to listen to their concerns especially around environmental and community safety issues, whilst being able to give information on future proposals on the disposal of waste and crime prevention advice.

“There will also be time to involve the children and young people. The Play Rangers will be in attendance to provide activities also story telling will take place. These activities were well received on the last action week within Loughborough.”

Inspector Cathy Yallop, Commander of Charnwood local policing unit said; “The previous partnership weeks, which have been held across the borough, have been very well received by local residents and I am pleased that our partnership approach to identifying and tackling problems is continuing. 

“I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to see for themselves the work that is being done to make their community a nicer and safer place to live and to take advantage of the wide range of help and advice that will be on offer.”

Kevin Pearson, Leicestershire Fire Service’s North Group Manager, said: “Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service welcomes the opportunity to strengthen the safer communities partnerships within Charnwood.

“We will be working with our partners in offering advice and assistance to increase fire safety in the home and within the environment for the residents of Mountsorrel.”
