INNOVATIVE PARTNERSHIP A STEP CLOSER TO REALITY
Posted on 22/08/2008
An innovative partnership between two neighbouring Councils to share services has moved closer to reality.
Charnwood Borough Council in Leicestershire and Rushcliffe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire have been working on the Shared Services project for more than 18 months.
The Councils have selected Liberata as its preferred partner and the private-sector firm was required to submit a Best and Final Offer to both Authorities outlining details of its proposals.
These proposals have been received and Charnwood’s Cabinet met last night (Thursday, August 21st) to make a decision on whether to accept the bid as it relates to Charnwood Borough Council. The Cabinet agreed to accept Liberata’s offer.
The proposals will be considered by Rushcliffes Cabinet on Tuesday, September 9, and the agreement of both Councils is required before the partnership with Liberata can move forward.
Cllr Richard Shepherd, the Leader of Charnwood Borough Council, said: “The Councils joint evaluation panel is satisfied that the Best and Final Offer from Liberata is compliant.
“We are hoping that the formal approval processes will soon be completed and we shall then be able to make further details available.”
Charnwood and Rushcliffe are aiming to be the first Councils in the country to share services across county boundaries.
The ground-breaking deal will help save millions of pounds for Council Tax payers, help both Councils become more efficient and secure jobs.
